New York, Dec 29: Skinny jeans, adult films and even human manure were among some of the must-have items for North Koreans, according to a South Korean professor who has interviewed recent defectors from the communist country. Kim Young-soo, a political science professor at Seoul''s Sogang University, said at a conference on Tuesday that these items were selling `like hot cakes', reports the New York Post.
Other popular items sold included TV dramas and instant noodles.
Yonhap news agency reported that shops began selling human excrement to deal with acute shortages of fertilizer in North Korea.
"Each household used to use human excrement as fertilizer, but because it''s hard to keep up with the amount, human manure shops showed up at markets," said Young-soo.
Skinny jeans also became popular items for sale in the North after a ban on fashionable trousers was lifted.
"Skinny jeans are now popular and are changing the fashion style of women in Pyongyang," Young-soo added. (ANI)
