Grammy Awards 2012: Who Wore What? Rihanna in Custom Giorgio Armani

Rihanna in Custom Giorgio Armani: Again, another "Custom Giorgio Armani"--but in completely different direction than what I last commented on in my Adele post. With Adele, he went "Retro Vintage 60's Demure", but with Rihanna, it's Halston-Meets-Studio 54 Sex! I guess, depending on the Star, Armani and his team will create anything for you!

When asked about the gown--which was a black plunging neckline halter style with a deep back and center-front slit--Rihanna said that she helped Armani design this and that it was a "collaboration". Let me get this right, Rihanna HELPED Armani design? Didn't know Mr. Armani needed help in that department...but regardless who did what, it was very sexy, simple and Farah Fawcett HOT--even her hairstyle vibed 70's chic. What did you guys think? Rihanna in Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring 2011, 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Red Carpet

Well Jean Paul Gaultier's PR team was working OVERTIME! They nabbed not just one big star on the 2011 Grammy Awards Red Carpet (Nicole Kidman, see posting below)--but TWO--with Rihanna! Both gowns from the same Haute Couture Spring 2011 "Punk Can Can" Collection. Rihanna just loves the whole intermittent transparency thing on dresses. And this gown has it. Placed between the transparent panels are also gradating layers of tulle gathered ruffles. It's a bit of a mess for me. I'm just not sure if it works. It just looks like someone might have taken the Christmas Tree garlands and used them to make a dress. But...her hair and make up look GORGEOUS!!! Just like Nicole, she was wise to go a softer more delicately pretty route.

Is it a 'Yea" or Nay" on Rihanna's Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring 2011 Gown? I would love to know what you guys think? Be sure to let me know!

2010 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Rihanna

Rihanna in Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall 2009, the "All White Collection".

This gown also happens to be from the same "All White" Elie Saab collection in which French actress Marion Cotillard's SAG Awards dress came from. Being a "fashion guy", I always love it when I see somebody wear one of the major pieces from collections that I've only seen in photos and/or runway videos--and then usually gets put back into the designer's Archival closets.

There's always this feeling I get when I see gowns like this and scream at the TV: "OMG, they did not just wear THAT dress from that such-and-such Haute Couture Collection...I'm so excited!!". With that being said, not everyone can actually pull off wearing such statement-making, usually runway-only pieces. These collections are not for everybody. But... Rihanna can pull it off, and did!
