Royal Fashion Minute: Catherine Duchess of Cambridge attends London Premiere of "War Horse"

Lace Duchess:

A Royal Premiere: UK Royals Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, arriving the London Premiere of "War Horse"

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, attended the UK premiere of Steven Spielberg's new blockbuster "War Horse" tonight. The premiere, in London's Leicester Square, was also attended by 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families, as well as beneficiaries of military charities.

The royal couple, who will celebrate Kate's 30th birthday tomorrow, attended the event in aid of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. All eyes were, of course, on Catherine and what she wore and how she looked...

The Duchess graced the red carpet wearing a floor-length custom-made black lace gown by Alice Temperley of Temperley London. The long-sleeved dress, featured a nude-colored slip lining, a built-in cinched black waistband and skirt panels which added sweep to the gown.

She accessorized with a black clutch bag and intricate diamond jewellery, including the delicately beautiful bracelet seen in above photo. The gown has "references" to Temperley of London's Resort 2012 Collection, such as...

This lace-and-nude paneled 3/4 sleeved dress, Temperley London Resort 2012...

It was also very similar (in the lace fabrication) to the navy blue lace Erdem dress she wore during her Canada State Visit last year.

Steven Spielberg, "Joey" and actor Jeremy Irvine, UK Premiere of "War Horse"

During tonight's "War Horse" red carpet premiere, William and Catherine shared the limelight with the star of the film who trotted down the red carpet. The thoroughbred, called "Joey", was driven from his stables in Milton Keynes to face fans and photographers. "Joey" also posed with Steven Spielberg and the other "War Horse" star, young actor Jeremy Irvine.

Pretty In Pink: "War Horse" actress Celine Buckens looking perfectly pretty in this bubblegum pink and black sleeveless dress, accessorized with golden-nude embellished heels, gold cuff and earrings and a black clutch. She gets a "A" in red carpet dressing!

Red Carpet Report: 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

Desert Fabulous!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Angelina in Elie Saab and Brad in Versace

The 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala occurred tonight, Saturday January 7th, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, in Palm Springs, California, naturally. The Awards Gala brought out lots of A-List Hollywood stars (it was sponsored by Cartier and I'm sure they got some nice Goodie Bags, a nice free stay in Palm Springs and lots, lots more...as incentives to show up!).

Blouson and Cane: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie
showed up with her handsome husband, Brad Pitt. The 48-year-old actor was being honored at the ceremony with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his work in both Moneyball and The Tree of Life. His pal and Moneyball co-star, Jonah Hill presented him with the award. Brad was walking with a cane and revealed to reporters that he injured himself when he wiped out on a ski slope while holding one of his twins. Miss Angelina, in case you were wondering wore a beige/putty fan-pleated blouson (she LOVES that silhouette!!) jumpsuit from Lebanese-born and Paris-and-Beirut based fashion designer Elie Saab. Pitt wore a Versace suit...and that cane.

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler: Yes, another A-List Hollywood Couple showed up to the 23rd Annual Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala--with his semi-new girlfriend! The 50-year-old actor received the Chairman’s Award for his work in both The Descendants and The Ides of March.

His statuesque (and gorgeous) girlfriend, actress, model and pro-Wrestler(!) Stacy Keibler, wore a black Alexander McQueen sleeveless and plunging-neck dress with shoulder-padded detail. Clooney's tuxedo suit was by Versace--just like Brad Pitt's (did the Versace PR team sponsor these two boys??)

Hot in Black: Actress Charlize Theron wore a HOT, HOT, HOT LBD--Little Black Dress--in the form of this Lanvin Spring 2012 by Alber Elbaz. Interestingly enough it was very close in its shoulder emphasizing design, as Stacy Keibler's (I'm sure Charlize and Stacy were "bumpin" shoulders!). PS: It's ALL about these STRONG SHOULDER dresses ladies!!! The black crepe sheath dress also featured an original cut-out as seen above. Call it, the New SLIT! LOVE. Also: notice her heels: The Stacked PUMP is about to be GONE. It's all about this delicate late 70's Disco Strappy heel...

Diva in Black: Black was a popular color at this 23rd Annual Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala. Actress Glenn Glose wore a black gown with a sweetheart neckline, fitted bust, godet panels at the skirt and elbow-length tight-fitting sleeves. I think she looks elegant and refined. Although I am not a huge fan of the sheer panels. Often these slightly sheer dresses look very different "in person" as opposed to seen in photos because the flash from the photographers cameras can be extremely harsh. I always advice everyone to take a flash photograph BEFORE you leave the house! You'll be surprised what the camera can reveal! We don't want any VPL (visible panty lines)!!

Michelle Williams: The 31-year-old actress received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her work in the film My Week With Marilyn, which was presented by her co-star Kenneth Branagh. She wore an above-the-knee muted gold satin and sequined cocktail dress from Prada. Again, this dress, also continued the "Shoulder Emphasis" silhouette with its impeccably beaded shoulder-covering torso detail. Oh, and what a surprise: no Super Stacked Heel...instead, a delicate slightly stacked gold strappy shoe. Good job Michelle.

Red Carpet Report: "Our Idiot Brother " Red Carpet Movie Premiere

Actresses Kathryn Hahn, Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, and Elizabeth Banks arrive at Our Idiot Brother Premiere

The LA Premiere for “Our Idiot Brother” took place at the ArcLight Cinemas here in Los Angeles last night.

No micro minis at this premiere. The starring ladies kept it Classy (with a "C"!) by keeping the hemlines hovering around the knee. Lots of pinks and black with dresses that had unique and interesting silhouettes.

While actress Kathyrn Hahn looked more suited to be playing a role in "The Help" (seriously, is she making meat loaf and chocolate chip cookies with that dress?) the other ladies took some fashion risks.

Zooey Deschanel in Moschino Fall 2011: Zooey is always a fashion risk-taker and this Moschino dress she chose, is no exception. It's a little "Pierrot The Clown", apparently the collar is detachable and she might have been best ditching it, but why not have a little fun on the Red Carpet once and awhile and not be so predictable.

Rashida Jones: Rashida is workin' the COLOR BLOCKED Trend with this Stella McCartney Spring 2012 simple black, pink and brick-red dress. Cute.

Elizabeth Banks in Prada Resort 2012: I'm a little "On the Fashion Fence" with this one. It's very 1920's Flapper chick in it's unstructured tunic silhouette and yes, it's Prada so we get the "It looks Vintage/Thrift Store but it's $4,000!" I kind of wish it was all like the front or all like the back. It seems very "Two different dresses in one".

Olivia Munn in Carolina Herrera: OK, now we're talking! No "on the fence" with this one. Olivia is picture perfect in this black-and-white one shoulder look from Carolina Herrera. She almost reminds me of Julio Iglesias' first wife, the Mestiza Filipina socialite DIVA, Isabel Preysler (look her up, trust me, she does!!) in this look. I especially love the coral earrings to bring in a "hint" of color.

Red Carpet Report: 2011 Teen Choice Awards--The Non-Teens: Fergie, Tyra, Zoe, Cameron, Emma!!

Non-Teens at the Teen Choice 2011

Fergie in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011: Miss Fergie. She loves a mini! So much so, they had the original below-the-knee Dolce & Gabbana dress chopped. It's A LOT of look on her. Even for Miss Fergie. I get it that she loves to be bold, brash and make "Boom Boom Pow" statements (did I just really type that??) but well...I think where I have the most problem is THOSE ROOTS!!! We know she can afford a touch-up. Or just have your assistant go to CVS and buy you some Clairol Nice 'N Easy.

Tyra Banks: OK, Miss Tyra, you are giving a "Miss Wonder Woman/Super Hero" moment in this yellow-and-black zip-front leather jumpsuit, even down to the BIG OL' gold cuff! She can knock off several TEENS with that bracelet of hers! Yes, it's all a bit of a mess, but hey, it's Miss Tyra! I do like her hair and that oh-so-innocent look on her face. She does have that SMIZE down to a science!

A few of the more "mature" ladies that got it right:

Cameron Diaz in a Strapless Mini Dress by A.L.C. : Soooo CUTE Cameron! Well done! Perfect little strapless mini dress. Clean, very "California Gal" hair and make-up. She looks as if she just spent 4 hours on a surfboard and well, she all of a sudden had to go to a big Red Carpet event! I especially LUV the heels:

Cameron Diaz' Heels by Burak Uyan

Zoe Saldana in Lanvin Resort 2012: Looks like Zoe was trying to mimic the same pose that the model did on the right in the Lanvin Resort 2012 Look Book with this metallic strapless ruffled and pleated dress. I like that the actual dress is more of a "Baby Doll" lose shape and yet, Zoe belted it to define her INCREDIBLY teeny tiny waist. The gold stacked heels are FAB as well.

Emma Stone in Christian Dior Resort 2012: Actress Emma Stone surprised even me with this rather "directional" choice of a dress. It's not pretty by definition but more "fashion'y" and yes, me likey! The drop waist, color-blocking and shapeless tunic-1920's shape are all very BIG for next Spring so...You Go Miss Emma!

Red Carpet Report: 2011 Teen Choice Awards--Demi, Selena and Taylor...

Actual Teens at the Teen Choice 2011

Last night was the Teen Choice 2011, held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City. So naturally, it's time for my "Nick V. Red Carpet Report". First up, ACTUAL TEENS at the Teen Choice 2011:

Demi Lovato in BCBG Max Azria: There was a bit of a trend--with several actresses last night--of wearing dresses with extra "trails", as I call them. And Demi Lovato's mustard yellow-and-nude BCBG by Max Azria was one example of this. I'm still deciding whether I would have chopped the asymmetry from the dress or just left it. She does look pretty. Nice tan Demi. She looks as if she just got back from Capri! The hair though, well, it's a bit overwhelming: She's a can of Aqua Net away from Snooki/QuinceaƱera territory. Overall it is a very pretty, pulled together look from head to toe.

Selena Gomez in Erin Fetherston Fall 2011: See what I told you about the trend of having extra "trails" in your dress hanging down...Here it is on the beautiful Selena Gomez aka Mrs. Bieber. Because she is so adorably cute, the style of the dress comes off a bit Pageant-esque (as opposed to the photo of the model who looks more Grecian-Diva) but I love the mix of accessories.

Selena's strappy violet-colored shoes with raw-cut rosette detail are very cute. Not DIVA cute, just cute-cute.

Taylor Swift in Rafael Cennamo: Taylor is vibing a "Marilyn Monroe Moment" in this halter-style flared dress with crystal-studded waist from NY-based designer Rafael Cennamo. Just kinda boring. Nothing to exciting. Very "Nordstrom Dress Department". It is age appropriate and I'll give her that! I LOVE the hair and the make-up but then again, it's Taylor Swift so she could do pretty much anything.

Red Carpet Report: "Cowboys and Aliens" World Premiere at Comic Con

Cowboys and Aliens World Premiere:

Ana de la Reguera in Gucci Fall 2011

In total contrast to light-and-playful "The Smurfs in 3D" Premiere, was the very sexy "Cowboys and Aliens" Red Carpet which took place at Comic Con in San Diego. The best proof of that was Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera! If you speak Spanish, you know Ana from telenovelas--but for you Gringos, you might recognize her from those KahlĆŗa Mexican liqueur commercials, as well as for the multi-million dollar ad campaign she recently signed with Cover Girl, along Drew Barrymore and Queen Latifah. For the premiere, Ana wore a deep red and black silk chiffon dress from Gucci Fall 2011.

It's the same one that BeyoncƩ wore for a recent Harper's Bazaar shoot at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, seen in the above photo. Ana took quite a risk in that ensemble, but if anyone could pull it off it would be her....and well, BeyoncƩ. I'm sure nobody (including all the producers in the room) could take their eyes off of her. Smart girl!!

Actress Olivia Wilde looked very "prim-and-proper" and almost "Romantic Vampira" in a black Dolce & Gabbana.

Abigail Spencer wore a multi-printed strapless dress from Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011, which was shortened just a little bit for her so it would hit her in the same location it hit 5'9" Latvian model Ginta Lapina on the right.

Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad Resort 2011 paired with Brian Atwood Red Satin "Maniac" Heels. Love those heels...not so sure if I feel the same about the dress.

Calista Flockhart in a strapless A-line shaped black-and-white polka dotted Emporio Armani dress. I like the dress, I don't know if I am such a fan of the "fresh/no make-up" and hair look on her. And those black peep-toe pumps---nope. Not with this dress.

Red Carpet Report: "The Smurfs in 3D" World Premiere

"The Smurfs in 3D" Movie Premiere BLUE Carpet:

Katy Perry in a Custom The Blonds corset (with her character in crystals across the front) and matching White Ruffle Skirt

"The Smurfs in 3D" Movie Premiere occurred in NYC on Sunday at the Ziegfield Theater. Naturally instead of a Red Carpet, it was Blue...Smurf Blue! Miss Katy Perry attended wearing a custom crystal strapless bustier dress designed by The Blonds (Phillipe & David Blond, NYC-based fashion and costume designers for Kylie, BeyoncƩ, Miley, Adam Lambert, Britney). They created other looks for Miss Katy in the past but this one had a very special sequined "Smurfette" emblazoned across the front. I thought she looked very cute! Loved her hair and make-up as well as her Blue Louboutins!

Actress Jayma Mays wore a very simple apple-green strapless mini-dress by NYC-based designer (and red carpet fave) Reem Acra. Very apropos for the event and quite striking.

"Modern Family" Latina-Fabulosa, Sofia Vergara showed up in a floor-length violet-colored strapless gown from Missoni Resort 2012, featuring hints of that fashion house's iconic "zig-zag" print motif.

And then...Guess who was also there? Yep, that's Tim Gunn!! With The Smurfs!! Oh Tim, he just finished taping the newest season (Season 9) of Project Runway which begins airing this Thursday night on Lifetime. Tim's BIG ear-to-ear smile lets me know he probably was just happy it was all over!!! Those 14-hour shoot days can get to you! (trust me, been there/done that!). Oh, and yes, by the way, Tim look dashing as always on the blue carpet and can't wait to see his guest starring role in the movie!

Red Carpet Report: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Antonio Berardi Fall 2011 at "Transformers: Dark of The Moon" Premiere

The New "Jessica Rabbit"...

Red Hot: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Antonio Berardi Fall 2011 gown, "Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon" NYC Premiere

Another "Transformers" Red Carpet...Another Fabulous Gown...Last week, English model/actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked like a Silver Screen Goddess in a Naeem Khan backless silver gown at the Germany Premiere of "Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon" and just days ago on Tuesday, she glammed it up once again on the red carpet for the New York City premiere of the film.

Antonio Berardi Fall 2011

This time, she wore a strapless scarlet red metallic silk lame gown by fellow Brit, designer Antonio Berardi from his Fall 2011 Collection. The gown featured interesting seaming detail and a slit so high...well, there might have been a "peek-a-boo" moment, depending on which way she walked and where the photogs were positioned.

That's a Slit: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and co-star Shia LaBeof, "Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon" NYC Premiere

But alas, no such thing! Miss Rosie is a PRO! Rosie looked ravishing! I'm usually not a fan of slits that high, especially when it's attached to some crazy feathered-and-cheap-diamante gown on a Miss USA contestant...but here, HUNEY! It is fantastic! She looked like "Jessica Rabbit" for 2011!!! I love that Rosie is embracing THE GOWNS! And why not darling! Can someone give her more red carpet premieres to attend?? Like pronto!

Red Carpet Report: Weekly Round-Up Part 2--Heidi Klum, Naomie Harris, Molly Sims, Krysten Ritter

Plunging Necklines, Valentino Shorts, and ONE Dress for Two Red Carpet Events...

Heidi Klum: My dear friend, Supermodel and SuperMommy Heidi Klum attended the 2nd Annual amfAR Inspiration Gala yesterday at the Museum of Modern Art New York City, wearing a baby blue halter gown with plunging neckline and high side-slit from one of my favorite Project Runway judges (he he!), Michael Kors. GA-GA-Gorgeous! Love the slicked back hair, the tan, the strappy heels! She is soooo going to meet friends for dinner ON HER Yacht off the Amalfi Coast wearing this look! Rumour has it that Heidi is in town to begin filming the new season of Project Runway--Season 9 (yes, kids, look out for some covered vans outside of Parsons in the next coming weeks!!!) as well as the new All Stars season (killing two Project Runway Birds with one fashionable stone!!).

Naomie Harris: English Actress Naomie Harris attended the 2011 Keep A Child Alive Black Ball wearing Valentino Spring 2011. At first I was like "She looks fairly familiar but...Who Is She?" and then I Googled her and Voila: "Pirates of The Caribbean" (oh yeah!!! Love her!) AND "28 Days Later". Well, I knew she was somebody, especially since the press house of Valentino doesn't just lend out dresses to anybody! I love this look on her--the silk organza blouse, the high-neck, those embroidered lace high-waisted shorts...all finished off perfectly with a simple black clutch and STOMPING black heels.

Molly Sims: Model/actress Molly Sims stepped out onto the 3rd Annual Bent On Learning Benefit Red Carpet wearing this demure and oh-so-sweet strapless dress in dusty rose featuring some nice side pleating and folding.

Krysten Ritter: "She's Out Of My League" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic" actress and former model, Kristen Ritter (no relation to the late actor John Ritter) was at the grand opening of Dream Downtown, PH-D Rooftop Lounge and Marble Lane restaurant wearing a silver and blush/nude tiered dress from Alice + Olivia. After attending the 3rd Annual Bent On Learning Benefit (sponsored by Alice + Olivia) Krysten dashed over to Dream Downtown to get her "party on". Two Red Carpet events, One Dress. No outfit changes. Good Girl.

Red Carpet Report: Weekly Round-Up--Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, Alicia Keys, Gwyneth Paltrow

Belles of the Red Carpet...

Blake Lively: "Gossip Girl" star and this season's "Lagerfeld It Girl", Blake Lively, wearing Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2009 to the Green Lantern Premiere in Hollywood. This gown--if ordered--would probably set you back about $50,000. Yep, that's right--I think the "Movie Premiere What To Wear" ante has been raised when actresses such as Lively show up in Haute Couture kids!!!

She stars in the print ad for the new Chanel Mademoiselle handbag, shot by Karl Lagerfeld of course. I assume it's probably in her contract to wear Chanel and nothing but Chanel at her red carpet appearances and/or events--or at least some of them. Lots of actresses and/or Design Houses carve that out as part of their contract. We'll see how much Chanel Miss Lively can wear in the next coming months...hopefully it will all be Haute Couture!!!

Eva Longoria: Eva Longoria showed up in a mint-green lace over satin one-shoulder corset dress from Monique Lhuillier to the Mexican American Legal Defense And Education Fund Awards. She looks pretty and 50's elegant. Love those stacked silver metallic pumps! Somehow--as high and as prominent as they are--they still don't take away from the entire look. Notice how the runway sample on the right hits the model above the knee. On Miss Eva, it covers it.

Alicia Keys: At first look, I had to do a double-take! I didn't even realize it was Alicia Keys. I thought it was model Petra Nemcova originally (what do I know?? I was really off!!). But indeed, here is Alicia Keys wearing Custom Givenchy Haute Couture by Ricardo Tisci to the Keep A Child Alive Black Ball. So, let me get this right: It's Haute Couture--which means one-of-a-kind and hand-made and VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!--and it is also Custom? Is that redundant? Or just really really REALLY expensive!?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Actress, Country-singer/"Glee" Phenom and Spanish-language-fluent Gwyneth Paltrow is NOT wearing Haute Couture here (well, at least we got one girl!!). In fact, she's wearing a poly jersey "Grecian" draped cocktail dress from NYC fashion wunderkind Alexander Wang to the 3rd Annual Bent On Learning Benefit. Well done Miss Paltrow. You know how much I also love them Grecian draped dresses so you ain't gonna hear anything negative here...
