NY Fashion Week Fall 2009 Runway Videos!!--Part 2

NY Collections: Futurism by way of the 1980's and Pasadena?
Her Name Was Rio: Marc Jacobs Fall 2009/10

During this last Fall 2009/10 New York Fashion Week, big shoulders (Zac Posen) , big Ball gowns (Oscar De La Renta) and strong make-up was on parade on the runways featuring the latest offerings for Fall 2009. There were also lots of Azzedine Alaia and Herve Leger-like body-wrapping and micro minis. If one blinked, you might have thought it was 1985 Fall Fashion Week! Case in Point: The marvelous Creative minds of Marc Jacobs and Rodarte.

Marc Jacobs:
Ready To Flashdance: Marc Jacobs Fall 2009/10

His Fall 2009 Collection, which began simple enough. First, he showed grey, almost-schoolgirl cardigans with neck scarves, but then quickly went into 1980's Stephen Sprouse-meets-Duran Duran colorful coats and dresses. The exaggerated make-up and spikey asymmetrical hair styles reminded me of those Patrick Nagel paintings---all that was missing was some black lacquered furniture strewn on the stage and I would have thought I was back at my High School Prom!
Barbie-Pink: Marc Jacobs Coat Fall 2009/10

I loved it all! Jacobs featured over-sized shoulders , over-sized jackets and lots of tight tights! The Crayola-like colors--from neon-bright yellows and greens to "Barbie" pinks, were unusual for Fall, but still looked great!! The Marc Jacobs message was in-your-face and strong for Fall: Buy a neon-yellow coat and update that all-black wardrobe come Fall 2009.

Rodarte:
Wrapped Bride of Frankenstein: Rodarte Fall 2009/10

For Fall, the Pasadena, California based Mulleavy sister team of Rodarte designed a collection that almost looked perfect for the Bride of Frankenstein a la 2009. The looks were futuristic with a bit of quirky romanticism, which is becoming a Rodarte trait. Wrapped, draped and tied knit and woven tops over micro-mini skirts with high straitjacket-like leather boots.
These Boots Are Made For Walkin' : Rodarte Fall 2009/10

Each look seemed like a slight variation on the last one, with various color and draped top changes. Some thought it was a bit repetitive but that did not stop the fashionistas and fashion editors alike from going on and on about how much they just LOVED it. See for yourself.
